The Film Federation of India jury has chosen Aamir Khan’s directorial debut venture ‘Taare Zameen Par’ to represent India at the 81st Annual Academy Awards (to be held in Feb) in the foreign language film category. Lagaan missed narrowly in 2001.
When Aamir’s home banner venture, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR (working title) commenced, it was Amol Gupte who started out as the director of the film. After a while we heard that Aamir Khan, not being satisfied with Amol’s work, had taken over the reins from him. It was promptly denied by all concerned and it was asserted that Amol was firmly seated in the director’s chair.
However, after a short while it was announced that Aamir and Amol were directing the movie together and Aamir would be credited as the joint director. But that was not the end of the story. And here is the final news (hopefully!). Aamir’s will be the only name as the director of TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and Amol Gupte will get credit, just for the story.
Just to recall, Aamir Khan plays the tutor of a dyslexic child, in the December 21 release, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR.
