GUWAHATI, Nov 1 – Asserting that there could be no compromise on terrorism, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today said that the Centre would take up the matter with governments of other countries if those were found to be involved in the acts of terrorism in India. “There can be no compromise on terrorism. If other governments are found to be involved in acts of terrorism against us, we will definitely take up the matter with them,” Dr Singh said at a press conference.

Senior BJP leader LK Advani had on Friday accused the Centre of going soft on terrorism and also asked it to exert diplomatic pressure on Bangladesh to ‘prevent anti-India activities on its soil’ in the aftermath of the serial blasts in Assam that killed 81 people and injured over 200.

“We are not going soft on terrorism. Whosoever might be responsible for the terror attacks, will be severely punished,” he said.

The Prime Minister, however, declined to name any country by name for the terror attacks, saying that the matter was under investigation. “We are looking into all aspects of the investigations, and it is not proper at this stage to name any country. We are looking at the clues,” he said.

Dr Singh, who along with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the MMCH and GMCH hospitals besides the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, expressed their solidarity with the affected people and assured every possible step for treatment of the injured and restoration of normalcy.

“We have come here to express our solidarity with the people of Assam in their hour of great grief and sorrow. We express our heartfelt sympathy to the victims of the blasts. The State Government and the Centre would do everything in their capacity for treatment of the injured and restoration of normalcy,” Dr Singh said.

Activists of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today took out a procession at Dharapur around 5-30 pm protesting against the failure of the Government to provide security to the lives and property of the people. They also demonstrated black flags and burnt effigies of the Prime Minister Dr Singh and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
