Iranians hold solidarity march in New York

Posted by Rick On June - 25 - 2009

They were wearing green — the color of the protest movement in Iran and expressed frustration, outrage and sadness over the post electoral violence on the streets of Tehran.

Though they are thousands of miles away from home, Iranians in New York gathered to support the Iranian people’s right to peaceful protest and freedom of speech.

“They must be exhausted. They do not have a lot of communication there. To show them we are still here that we have not forgotten. Don’t be scared. We are all here together,” said a supporter.

On many people’s minds was the young student Neda whose death was captured on a cell phone and broadcast to the world. The protesters believe that her death would not be in vain.

“She is going to be the symbol, the one, her blood is going to be the one to free our land and give us freedom,” said an Iranian.

Mir Hussain Moussavi reportedly called for Iranians to protest peacefully on Thursday. His voice has been heard in New York where Iranians are exercising the right to free speech and expression and showing their solidarity with their friends and families who are protesting back home.
