The blast in Mehrauli area of south Delhi comes exactly two weeks after a series of bombs went off in the Capital, following which Delhi was on high alert.
However, the explosive was very different from what was used in the earlier blasts.
The bomb that went off on Saturday had Ammonium Nitrate and Potassium Chlorate while nails were used as shrapnels.
Contrary to earlier blasts, no timer device or integrated circuit was used, suggesting that it was a crude device similar to three such low-intensity explosions in south Delhi in the past two years. None of the cases has been solved.
And unlike other blasts in which bombs were covertly planted, in this case, two persons on a motorbike dropped it in a busy market in full public view.
Intelligence agencies are examining the role of a splinter group of the Indian Mujahideen. They are also not ruling out the possibility that a new module carried out Saturday’s blast.
